The villa is located at an altitude of 1610 m o. s. l. (1760 yd) on a
marked alluvial cone and at the end of the
valley. The elevated position allows to have a beautiful view of the valley
and the mountains all around.
During the winter, the slight slope of the cone is used to create the
ski slopes of Cadepunt, Larciunei,
Biancaneve, Mickey Mouse, and Nives. At the upper end of the cone, the
inclination becomes greater, and
ideal for ski slopes of medium difficulty, like those of Risaccia, less
steep, and of Dantercepies, which in Ladin
means'between the mountains', for more experienced skiers.
The ski slope in front of the house and the adjacent ones are particularly
suitable for children and beginners,
and those of Dantercepies are part of the well known SELLARONDA ring.
These slopes are all connected, and
connect directly to the other skiing areas of Val Gardena and to very
important ones of the Dolomiti Superski,
like those of Alta Badia with Lagazuoi, Arabba with the Marmolada and
Val di Fassa.
For those who like cross country and walks, there are the cross-country
centre and walks in the area of
Vallunga.
Some guests also take advantage of the sunny location of the house to
sit in the sun during the winter and
spend some time together with their friends
The villa's position is thus extremely favorable: It‘s wonderful
to have the possibility to start and come back
home with the skis put on, not to have to observe schedules of hotel shuttles
and bus stops, and to do
completely without the car for the whole holidays.
What belongs the summer, the major part of the cone has been used as meadows
since centuries. Especially
at the beginning of the summer, but also towards the end, when these meadows
bloom, they become so
colored to represent a small natural wonder. Early in July and September
the grass is cut and the hay stored in
barns for the foraging of the cattle during the cold season. The villa
is exactly located in one of these
meadows!
The villa is then situated at the entrance of Vallunga,in Ladin Val, a
spectacular glacier valley of the Dolomites.
His characteristics are dating back to different ice ages and are surprisingly
well preserved, like the typical
U-shape formed by the mountains of Stevia and Ciastel de Chedul, the so-called
circus of the mountain Puez,
the shoulder of Stevia,or have been only slightly altered, like the hanging
side-valley of Chedul. Val is a
paradise walkers and mountain bikers, and Puez, Stevia, Chedul for hikers.
Not for nothing, the famous
DolomitesAlta Via n. 2 passes right at the upper edge of the cirque of
Puez. In 2009, these areas been declared
an UNESCO World Natural Heritage site together with eight other parks
in the Dolomites. Just think that there
are only four sites inscribed as UNESCO World Natural Heritage throughout
Italy!
The positon of the house is also very favourable as starting point on
foot for a lot of other walking and hiking
areas:
the cable car Dantercepies at only 300 m distance connects to the areas
of Cir, the gruppo Sella, and the
beautiful path at a distance of 450 m towards the N on the stretched slope
in front of the house leads to the
areasof Juac, Cisles, Seceda, Pic, and even in the Val di Funes for trained
hikers.
Several farms survived the changes of time. Some of them are found along
the slope mentioned, and a few still
have a more or less original shape, or have been restored with care.
Once, the oldest of these farms were controlled by the lords Wolkenstein,
whose court wasthe castle on the
mountain Stevia, castle now ruined since several centuries. Typical of
this slope are also the carefully restored
dry walls. Until the middle of the last century, they formed the base
of the terraces used by the farmers as
fields for different types of cereals and the potatoes.
Still today, the farmers lead the cattle grazing. A characteristic area
of pasture is Fraz, only a fewdozens
meters away from the house. Here, in the morning the cattle stops a bit
to drink from the mountain stream
andeating the grass, before being taken higher up in the forest. In th
afternoon, it‘s very striking to observe
the cows moving down in a row along the road directed towards their cowshed
and to listen to the heavy
tinkling of their bells.
The villa-location close to the mountains, to the cultural/rural landscape
and to various refreshment points
andhuts makes it an ideal starting point for many hikes, walks and bike
rides.
Without going further into details, one can thus conclude that the position
of the house is not only very
favourable during the winter, but also among the most attractive ones
of Selva during the summer.
